Big 8 teams populate State Women's Basketball Top 10
The Big 8 Conference has made its presence known on this week's CCCWBCA State Top 25 Poll with three teams--#7 Folsom Lake, #8 San Joaquin Delta, and #9 Sierra--among the top 10.
There was limited movement overall on the Feb. 3 rankings as College of the Sequoias continues its undefeated season at 23-0 in sweeping all 19 first-place coaches votes (475 points).
New #2 Mt. San Antonio (438) regained its top SoCal rating over now #3 Orange Coast (431), followed by #4 Moorpark (415), #5 Glendale (370), #6 Laney (364), Folsom Lake (362), Delta (331), Sierra (291) and #10 San Jose City (286).
No teams dropped out of the Jan. 27 poll.

1. SEQUOIAS, Central Valley, 23-0: The Giants lead the CVC at 7-0 and have scored 100 or more points in six of their last 12 victories. Campbell Vieg is tied for fourth in the state in assists at 5.7 per game. Last Ranking: #1
2. MT. SAN ANTONIO, South Coast North, 19-4: The Mounties are 3-0 to pace the SCC North and have won four straight. Daisia Mitchell averages 3.2 assists. Mt. SAC picks up a slot. Last Ranking: #3
3. ORANGE COAST, Orange Empire, 19-4: The Pirates top the OEC at 6-1 but saw a 7-game win streak stopped by Cypress, 73-69, on Jan. 31. Myia Collins averages 4.3 assists. OCC slides a rank. Last Ranking: #2
4. MOORPARK, Western State North, 19-4: The Raiders have run their win streak to 12 and are ahead in the WSC North at 7-0. They have three 100-point performances in the past six contests. Mika Jarrett averages 3.7 assists. Last Ranking: #4
5. GLENDALE, Western State South, 17-3: While the Vaqueros have won 12 straight and top the WSC South at 7-0, last week was no picnic in the park. Glendale needed two free throws by Sammy Velasquez with 11 seconds left to get by West LA, 58-57, after squeaking past Citrus, 58-57, in overtime. Lisette Meza averages 3.3 assists. Last Ranking: #5
6. LANEY, Bay Valley, 20-3: The Eagles are 11-0 to lead the BVC and have won seven in a row. Tali Fa'i averages 3.5 assists. Laney moves up one spot. Last Ranking: #7
7. FOLSOM LAKE, Big 8, 20-3: The Falcons are winners of 12 of their last 13 and have a win at hand to lead Delta in the Big 8 race at 10-1. Khalilah Corley averages 4.5 assists. FLC drops one position. Last Ranking: #6
8. SAN JOAQUIN DELTA, Big 8, 15-7: The Mustangs are on a 6-game win streak and stand at 9-1 in the Big 8. Kiara Council averages 2.9 assists. Last Ranking: #8
9. SIERRA, Big 8, 17-4: The Wolverines are third in the Big 8 after lopsided wins last week over Diablo Valley (by 73 points) and over American River (46-point margin). Dibora Leaf and Juliana Chavez average 3 assists. Sierra picks up a rating point. Last Ranking: #10
10. SAN JOSE CC, Coast South, 22-2: The Jaguars are enjoying a 19-game win streak and top the Coast South at 6-0. Last week, they beat Mission by 24 and scored a 7-point victory over Hartnell. Alyssa Malla is third in the state in assists at a 6.7 clip. SJCC falls one spot. Last Ranking: #9
11. MT. SAN JACINTO, Inland Empire Athletic, 19-3: The Eagles have won 15 consecutive games and are in first in the IEAC at 10-0. They survived a defensive struggle v. Chaffey, 43-40. Drasoni Kyles averages 3.3 assists. Last Ranking: #11
12. CYPRESS, Orange Empire, 15-8: The Chargers made the buzz with their 4-point upset victory over Orange Coast but remain tied for third in the OEC with Irvine Valley. Chelsea Caldera averages 3 assists. Cypress climbs one rung. Last Ranking: #13
13. PALOMAR, Pacific Coast Athletic, 15-6: The Comets have hopes of going undefeated in PCAC play, now at 7-0 including its second win over San Diego Mesa, 59-51. Brooke Quintana averages 3.7 assists. Palomar soars up two spaces. Last Ranking: #15
14. VICTOR VALLEY, Inland Empire Athletic, 18-5: The Rams are second in the IEAC at 9-2, but were knocked off by Cerro Coso, 66-59, last week. Karoline Ellison averages 4.2 assists. VVC drops two spaces. Last Ranking: #12
15. SANTA BARBARA CC, Western State North, 17-5: The Vaqueros continue to be second in the WSC North at 5-2 and saw a 5-game win streak snapped by Moorpark, 66-29, last week. Kaylee Bosetti averages 3.7 assists. SBCC descends a rank. Last Ranking: #14
16. FULLERTON, Orange Empire, 17-6: The Hornets had a chance to tie Orange Coast for first place in the OEC, but got tripped up by Riverside, 70-60, after a 5-point win over Cypress. They trail the Pirates by one game at 5-2. Xochitl Hood averages 3.7 assists. Fullerton picks up a spot. Last Ranking: #17

22. GROSSMONT, Pacific Coast Athletic, 17-4: The Griffins are tied for second in the PCAC with unranked Imperial Valley, both at 6-2. They have won four straight, including a win over Mesa, 62-58, on Jan. 24. Anayla Anderson is the state laader in assists at 8.1 per game. She dished out 16 in a Jan. 22 victory over Southwestern. 23. CC SAN FRANCISCO, Coast North, 13-8: The Rams are winners of six in a row and top the Coast North at 5-0. Last week, they downed San Mateo, 72-53. Madison Thomas averages 3 assists. CCSF leaps a rating. Last Ranking: #24
24. SANTA ANA, Orange Empire, 16-7: The Dons are a disappointing 3-4 in the OEC, losing four of their last five. Mia Rivera averages 4.6 assists. SAC takes the elevator down two floors. Last Ranking: #22
25. ANTELOPE VALLEY, Western State South, 14-8: The Marauders are second in the WSC South at 7-1, and have won three straight, including last night's 44-point victory over Santa Monica featuring a triple-double by Zaniyah Wyatt (10 points, 12 rebounds, 12 assists). She is AVC's assists leader at a 3.3 average. Last Ranking: #25
