Taft, Santa Barbara, American River players are CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #2
The CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #2 included three different position players in Taft College outside hitter Jazzahlei Satele, American River setter Gwendolyn Hansen and Santa Barbara City middle blocker Hazel Irving.
"Jazzy" Satele, a 5-foot-6 freshman from Kalaheo High in Waimanalo, Hawaii, had a monster week as she crushed 82 kills, made 66 digs, served 16 aces and added 10 blocks in five matches, four of them Taft victories. Satele ripped 24 kills and hit .338 in a 5-set win over Ohlone and earlier had scored 20 kills (hit .395) in a 4-set loss against an always tough San Diego Mesa squad.
She is averaging an impressive 4.94 kills, 4.04 digs and 0.96 aces per contest in helping the Cougars to a 6-1 start to the '25 season.
"Gwen" Hansen, a 6-foot sophomore from Trinity High in Weaverville, totaled 120 assists, 36 digs, made seven kills and served six aces in three matches. She dished out 45 assists in the Beavers 4-set win over West Valley and added 47 assists in a sweep over Sequoias. In five matches this year, she is averaging 9.28 assists.
Irving, a 5-11 freshman from Palisades High, scored 23 kills, stuffed 11 blocks (four solos), attacking at a .538 clip in just 39 swings during SBCC's three victories. She scored 10 kills and had four blocks in the Vaqueros 5-set triumph over San Diego Miramar.
